Mike Flanagan's Carrie moves Stephen King's first novel into the age of social media and gives it eight hours. Critics mostly praise the cast, especially Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan, and the sharper take on modern bullying; they split on its departures from the book and on how scary it is.

A thoughtful, well-made update that is more drama than shocker. It earns three and a half stars.
