Backrooms

A smart, properly creepy debut that gets nearly everything right about empty space: the production design, the sound and two committed lead performances do the frightening. Where critics push back is the writing, which explains more than a dream-logic horror film should and leaves its characters thinner than its corridors.

Worth your evening if you like slow dread, with the caveat that it is more promising than perfect.
